Selectmen, Staff Remember IT Director Following Passing

Members of the Hudson Board of Selectmen and town staff paid tribute to Information Technology Director Doug Bosteels during the board’s Oct. 8 meeting, remembering him as a dedicated employee, problem solver, and friend following his recent passing.

The meeting began with a moment of silence led by Board of Selectmen Chair Dillon Dumont.

“Doug began his career with the Town of Hudson in 2018. After several years of dedicated service as a temporary employee, he was appointed Director in 2025,” Dumont said. “He was a proud father, known for his generous heart and unforgettable sense of humor. Doug will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues in the Town of Hudson. And at this time, I ask you to stand with me in a moment of silence.”

Later in the meeting, Town Administrator Roy Sorenson reflected on Bosteels’ contributions to the town and the impact he had on municipal operations.

“It’s never too late to say thank you, so I’m going to say thank you to Doug Bosteels,” Sorenson said.

Sorenson noted that he had been with Bosteels the evening before his passing.

“I was sitting with him the night before at the Budget Committee meeting, and next thing you know, he’s no longer with us,” Sorenson said.

Bosteels was appointed IT Director shortly before Sorenson arrived in Hudson and quickly took on a variety of major technology initiatives for the town.

“So you folks hired him in advance of me coming on board, and when I got here, having conversations with him, he didn’t just get satisfied and get in the position,” Sorenson said. “He already had a plan laid out. You saw that with his strategic goals and what he wanted to do, and he took on some very large projects right in the beginning that, honestly, I said, ‘Is this too much for you to do?’ And he took them on.”

According to Sorenson, Bosteels approached his work with professionalism and a willingness to tackle difficult projects while ensuring the town’s technology systems remained operational and secure.

“He’s going to be missed,” Sorenson said. “The folks here loved him. He did a lot. He made his way around town, tried to troubleshoot everything as much as he could, and kept a good eye on our system, the backbone of our system.”

Vice Chair Bob Guessferd also shared memories of working with Bosteels, particularly during his time supporting the Hudson Police Department’s technology needs.

“Doug was well known for being so easy to talk to, to fix problems, to work with people and cooperate,” Guessferd said. “And that quality is a very unique quality in an IT director. Not to say that they’re all not that way, but he was extremely personable.”

Guessferd noted that Bosteels earned respect not only for his technical skills but also for his ability to build relationships throughout town government.

“The police in some ways were not real happy that he got promoted. He wasn’t going to be able to keep his focus on them,” Guessferd said. “He was very, very well liked, in addition to personally, as well as his IT skills and all the things that he did when he stepped in.”

Board members and staff agreed that his contributions to the town and the relationships he built throughout the community will not be forgotten.

“We will dearly miss him,” Guessferd said.
