Robert E. Clegg Jr. Memorial Highway Name Moves Forward

During the March 5 Hudson Board of Selectmen meeting, members received an update about legislation that would designate the portion of Route 111 through Hudson to be named Senator Robert E. Clegg Jr. Memorial Highway.
The Board of Selectmen had previously approved sending a letter of support to the Senate, in order to help get it passed.
“Thank you for your support on Senate Bill 468, relative to designating a portion of route 111 in Hudson as the Senator Robert E. Clegg Jr. Memorial Highway,” Senator, Sharon Carson, wrote in a letter. “I am pleased to inform the Board that this bill unanimously passed the Senate and will now move over to the House for consideration.”
In addition to the previous letter sent in support, Carson suggested that they send a letter to the House of Representatives. “It would be very helpful if the board write to the House Leadership in support of this bill, and for a member of the board to come and testify when the bill is scheduled for a public hearing in the House,” Carson wrote in a letter.
The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved, sending a letter in support to the House Leadership, however, due to the uncertainty on when the House bill would be heard in committee, the Board of Selectmen decided to revisit who, if anyone, would be able to go to the State House to testify in support of the legislation.
Also during the meeting, the board announced a number of different votes taken during its most recent non-public meeting. One of those votes was to hire Christopher Penny as a firefighter/EMT with a starting pay of $18.14 per hour. On the recommendation of Fire Chief, Scott Tice, the board of Selectmen unanimously approved the hiring of Penny.
Another personnel move was to amend the vote taken at the Jan. 30 meeting to hire Connor Roche as a firefighter/EMT, since he had already been hired and accepted a position at a different department.
The vote by the Selectmen was unanimous to amend the vote.
Selectmen also voted in favor of authorizing Tice to “extend the probation of Firefighter Kenneth Ballou, Firefighter Gabriel Burgess-Labonte, Firefighter Logan Falk, and Firefighter Earvin Wanjohi,” for an extra three months “or the completion of their probationary requirements.”
The next Board of Selectmen meeting is slated to take place on March 26, at 7 p.m.
