Broncos Girls’ Basketball Drop Two, Boys’ Split a Pair

After putting together an impressive four-game winning streak to reach the halfway point of the Division I season at 5-4, the Alvirne High School Girls’ Basketball squad dropped two games last week and dropped below the .500 again.
The Lady Broncos team’s troubles started after a long road trip to Keene High School on Tuesday night, Jan. 30, where they fell by just one basket in a 49-47 nail-biter.
Two days later, in a home contest against the Londonderry Lancers, the AHS girls played a make-up game that had been postponed from the prior week where scoring was a real issue.
The Londonderry squad’s defensive strength kept Alvirne’s basket attempts to a minimal and the Broncos finished with their lowest score of the season.
To Alvirnes credit, they were also able to keep the Lady Lancers basket total down, with the game finishing at 44-27.
Alvirne’s entire offence was stymied throughout the contest, scoring single digits in every quarter.
They trailed 6-5 after one quarter and were down 23-12 by halftime. The scoring troubles continued in the second half, with just 15-points put on the board by the home team.
Junior forward, Ella Hartson, put up nine-points to lead the Broncos scoring.
Sophomore guard, Alexis Floyd, and senior guard, Rachel Allard, were held to just three-points each in the loss.
The Alvirne girls will try to get back on the winning path this week with games against two teams with losing records.
The Broncos traveled to Spaulding High School on Tuesday, Feb. 6, to take on the 2-10 Red Raiders and on Friday night, the team will host a game with Nashua North (5-8) starting at 6:30 p.m.

BOYS
The Broncos Boys’ squad had a two game split last week, winning 59-44 on Friday night, Feb. 2 at Bishop Guertin, but losing to the Keene High School Blackbirds at home on Tuesday night, Jan. 30.
Last week’s two-game split put the Alvirne Boys’ record at 5-6 with seven games left in the season.
The AHS boys are scheduled to play three games this week.
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, they played the Spaulding Red Raiders (5-8).
On Wednesday night, Feb. 7, they play in Londonderry in a make-up game against the Lancers (4-7) rescheduled from two-weeks prior.
On Friday night, Feb. 9, the team will head over to Nashua North High School to take on the 9-4 Titans, starting at 6:30 p.m.
