The Yankee Brass Band performed at the Mallory Grey Amphitheater in Benson Park during a beautiful July 23 summer evening. The band performed a grand concert with selections from the Yankee Fanfare.
This was one of five consecutive shows that the band performed “Bands and Liberty: The Music of Our New Nation.”
The Yankee Brass Band has entertained audiences throughout the Northeast since 1986 with the cause of “historically informed performance” within the field of American band music. Using authentic period instruments, and outfitted in appropriate uniforms, the Yankee Brass Band presents the music of the “Golden Age of Bands” as was in the mid to late 19th century.
The players that form the band include professionals with extensive resumes of performing with major orchestras, opera companies, top rank military bands, Broadway productions, and touring groups supporting major performers. University level music educators with strong interest in the development and performance style of 19th century American music contribute their talent and expertise to the group.
For one week each summer, members assemble from all over the country for two days of rehearsal and five days of concerts, bringing all of the diverse elements together for their much too brief annual tour.
