The tenth annual Veterans Appreciation Picnic took place at the Hudson Memorial VFW Post 5791 on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Post Commander Chuck Chapman led a brief service before lunch was served at the event, which featured visits from state officials and candidates running for office. Gov. Kelly Ayotte, Congresswomen Maggie Goodlander, candidate John Sununu, State VFW Commander Tim Grant and State Senator Sharon Carson attended the picnic.
The picnic was open to anyone who has served in any branch of the U.S. military and didn’t need to be members of the VFW, American Legion, or any other veterans organization to attend.
Organizers describe the event simply as a gesture of appreciation and an opportunity for veterans to meet one another. A catered lunch was served along with horseshoes, bocce, a corn-hole tournament with prizes, and games and activities for children.
Veterans were also offered a free hair cut by a barber from Wilfred’s Barber Shop.
