Three Broncos Wrestlers Capture Titles at States MOCs

The Alvirne High School Wrestling team had three competitors climb to the status of “Best in the State” as they finished with a first place title at the Meet of Champions (MOCs) over the weekend.
Shayne Mackey, Shawn Boudreau and Jillian Boncore were all able to battle to championships at the MOCs and Girls State Championship on Saturday, March 1, at Pinkerton Academy in Derry.
Boudreau was coming off his Division II title-win a week earlier and came into the MOCs as the number-one seed in the 215-pound weight class and had three overwhelming victories in capturing the title.


Starting in the quarterfinals, Boudreau won by technical fall 18-1 at 2:34 to easily move into the semi-finals.
There, going three rounds, he captured a 10-0 major decision victory over the number-four seed, Gavin McConnell of Bedford.
In the finals, he controlled much of the match, going three rounds and winning with a 9-0 major decision to celebrate his final win in New Hampshire as a high school wrestler. According to the FloWrestling results, with the finals win, Bouudreau finished the year with a 41-5 record.
Mackey was also coming of Division II title and came in as the number-one seed at the MOCs.
Mackey, dominated the 165-weight class through the finals, winning by fall in the quarter finals, at 5-0 at 1:58 in the match to Calvin Bradley of Bedford High School. In the semi-finals, against Connor Whitman (12 seed) of Nashua South, Mackey controlled the match to a 16-2 major decision.
Facing the number-two seed, Jason O’Brien of the Timberlane Owls, Mackey quickly took care of business for a pin at :57 in the match for the best in the state crown.
As a team, Alvirne was seventh with 91.5 points. Timberlane placed first at the tournament with 180-points, followed by Salem with 137.5 points.
The NHIAA Girls’ State Championship also took place at the event on Saturday and Alvirne’s Jillian Boncore was able to capture the 165-pound title with two victories.
Starting in the semi-finals Boncore wrestled Aubrey Meyveagaci, of Mascoma Valley to a 14-0 Major decision win at 2:48 in the match.
In the finals, she dominated her opponent Ayla Saeturn, of Bishop Guertin 10-1 before pinning her at 2:44 in the match.
The three athletes will head to Providence RI this weekend to compete in the New England’s.
