Residents were invited to the Alvirne Community Garden by the Hudson Sustainability Advisory Committee for a “Pumpkin Smash” event. This was the first year the committee held the event and hopes it will continue as an annual community gathering.
The smashed pumpkins in the truck were ultimately carted off by the Black Earth Compost company to be professionally composted. The pieces on the ground will be tilled into the soil of the Community Garden to naturally compost over the winter. Photos by Samantha Paul
