Just one member of the Alvirne High School Cross Country was able to qualify and compete in this year’s New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Meet of Champions on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the school’s home course.
The 5K Race took place under sunny skies and very windy, cool conditions featuring the best runners from across the state from all three divisions.
The Broncos Cross Country team had just one runner to qualify for the final race of the fall sports season with Alvirne girls’ scoring 292-points at the Division I Championship and having sophomore Olivia Cartegena crossed the finish line in 18th place with her time of 21:09.29.
Cartegena took to the Alvirne course to represent her school as the lone representative and finished the race at 20:33.99, taking the 57th spot out of the 144-runners competing.
The winner, Alexis Paterna a junior from Exeter High School, had a time of 17:05.13; followed by junior Madeleine Lane, of Hopkinton, placing second at 17:13.90; third place was senior Megan Faris at 18:08.27.
Hanover High School to the team titles with 40-points; Oyster River was second with 100; and the Exeter Blue Hawks were third at 101.
In the boys race, the Pinkerton Academy team took first with 49-points, followed by Hanover High School in second with 105, and Coe-Brown Northwood Academy taking third with 129-points.
The winner, senior Sullivan Sturtz, of Keene High School, had a time of 15:18.25, just one-second ahead of Peyton Joslyn of Monadnock at 15:19.61 who captured second, and Bishop Guertin senior Ethan Fischer was third with a time of 15:24.40.
