Hudson School District Sees Its Official Enrollment Drop

One of the agenda items during the most recent Hudson School Board meeting was in regards to the school district’s Oct. 1 enrollment.
The Oct. 1 enrollment is the enrollment number school districts use as their official enrollment for the school year and is the number that is submitted to the state. 
Earlier this year, the School Board had received a briefing on what they expected the enrollment would be, with the enrollment as of August 2025. 
At that time, the enrollment for students across the school district was at 2,892, which was significantly lower than last year which had a total student enrollment of 2,941. 
As of the Oct. 1 enrollment, there were a total of 2,876 students enrolled across the school district. 
“This is the updated enrollment numbers this is what we use for budgeting purposes for the school year,” Hudson Superintendent Dan Moulis explained during the meeting. 
Generally across the school district grade levels, the district saw a decrease in its enrollment numbers this year compared to last year. 
PreK is one grade that saw an increase this year, with 99 students enrolled last year. The enrollment this year as of Oct. 1 is 105 students, which is the same it was In August. 
For Kindergarten, last year’s enrollment was at 187 students. This year the enrollment is at 177 students which is one more than they had in August. 
First grade had an enrollment of 197 students which is the same enrollment total they had last year. That number is also the same as the enrollment they had in August. 
For the second grade the enrollment was a total of 197 students which is two less than they have this year with a total of 199 students. That number was also the same from their August enrollment report. 
Last year the third grade had a total of 227 students enrolled, with this year them being down 27 students for a total of 200. 
Fourth grade had 231 students enrolled last school year compared to 225 students last year. 
For fifth grade there were 222 students enrolled as of Oct.1 compared to just 173 students last year an increase of 49 students. 
Sixth grade had 167 students enrolled as of Oct. 1 compared to 192 students last year 
At the seventh grade level the enrollment last year was 236 students compared to 189 students this year. 
This year at Alvirne High School (AHS) there were a total of 955 students enrolled as of Oct. 1 which is down compared to the 965 students enrolled at the high school last year. 
It was also noted that the senior class at AHS this year will be the largest class at the high school with 260 students enrolled as of the Oct. 1 date.
The next Hudson School Board meeting is slated to take place on Oct. 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
