District Projects Bids Get Approved by School Board

The Hudson School Board reviewed a number of proposals to award various different contracts, during its May 20 meeting.
One of the projects was for the Alvirne High School fire door replacement.
It was explained by Director of Facilities, John Pratte, that they received three different bids.
“This bid includes removal and disposal of nine sets of existing fire doors, installation of new fire doors and hardware,” Pratte wrote.
He said they were recommending awarding the bid to New England School Services, Inc. in the amount of $48,600.
The budget for the fire door replacement for the FY 25 budget is $68,000.
It was unanimously approved by the School Board to award the contract to New England School Services, Inc.
Another project was for the Alvirne High School Kitchen HVAC renovation project, which the school district received two bids.
“This bid includes full installation and commissioning of 3 rooftop HVAC systems at the AHS Kitchen (previously named Checkers), excluding electrical work to be done with in-house staff,” Pratte wrote.
He said they recommended awarding the contract to Wicked Cool Mechanical, LLC, which had a bid for a total of $97,560.
“The FY25 budget for the kitchen renovation is $250,000, a portion of which was intended to be utilized for this purpose (anticipated at around $100,000),” Pratte wrote.
The School Board approved awarding the contract.
For the District Wide Waste Disposal request for proposal, the school district received one bid.
“This bid includes routine scheduled disposal of waste and recyclables for all Hudson School District buildings,” Pratte wrote. “The facilities department has been very satisfied with the level of service provided by Casella Waste Services over the last five years. Casella’s professional service team has played an integral role in developing a waste removal program that provides cost saving opportunities by reducing general waste and increasing awareness of their Zero-Sort recycling program.”
The bid amount of $77,332, is less than the budget amount of $87,185.
“This would be for three years with two option years,” Pratte said.
The School Board ultimately approved awarding the contract.
There were three bids received for the Hudson Memorial School Hallway Flooring Installation project.
“This bid includes the installation of glued down vinyl floor planking, door transition strips, and new vinyl base cove in the first and second floor hallways at HMS,” Pratte wrote. “We recommend the School Board award this bid to R Fraser Company in the amount of $89,900.”
He said the company previously installed the flooring for the District at the newly renovated Palmer Center.
“The FY25 budget for the hallway flooring replacement is $94,000,” Pratte said.
Asked when they would have the flooring done Pratte said “we’re planning jumping that as soon as we can.”
The School Board approved awarding the bid.
For the H.O. Smith School Roof Replacement project, the District received seven bids.
Ten vendors attended the mandatory pre-bid conference for the HOS Roof Replacement RFP. Seven vendors submitted bids in response to the district’s advertised RFP for the replacement of the roof at H.O. Smith School.
“Upon reviewing the supplied bid documents, JB Roofing Systems, LLC has the most competitive bid pricing. JB Roofing Systems, LLC has excellent professional references,” Pratte told the School Board. “All replacement flashings will be installed to adhere to the manufacturer’s specifications.”
He said after reviewing the bids, they were recommending awarding the bid to JB Roofing Systems, LLC with a base price of $126,275.
‘Additional services for HOS, if required, shall be agreed upon at the time of construction. The FY25 budget for the work at HOS is $250,000,” Pratte wrote. “Additional services required may entail roof deck replacement, insulation replacement, walk mat installation, drain replacement, etc., which was factored into the budgeted amount used in creating the warrant article. The extent of additional services will not be determined until the project is underway and the roof is demolished.”
The School Board unanimously approved awarding the bid.
