Broncos Open Season With 16-6 Victory Over Keene

After a disappointing ending to last year’s season the Alvirne High School football team had a road win to open its 2026 season on Friday night, Sept. 4.

The Broncos earning a hard-fought 16-6 victory over the Keene Blackbirds when they traveled to Keene for the season opener and came away with a strong defensive performance, holding the Blackbirds to just six points while doing enough offensively to secure the win.

Alvirne took control of the game with a balanced effort and protected its lead through the second half, keeping Keene out of the end zone for the majority of the contest.

The victory gives the Broncos a 1-0 start to the season and provides an early boost as they begin their Division I schedule.

Alvirne High School finished the 2025 football season with a 4-5 overall record and a 1-5 record in Division I Central and were edged out of a playoff berth by the Londonderry High School Lancers.

The Broncos’ four wins came against: Manchester Central (28-14); the Timberlane Owls (25-22); the Dover Green Wave (28-21); and the Merrimack Tomahawks (28-26), in the final game.

The team’s losses were to Londonderry, Salem, Windham, Concord and Pinkerton.

Alvirne finished sixth in the division standings.

The Broncos had gone 7-4 in 2024, so the 2025 season represented a three-game drop in the overall win total.

The AHS squad will now turn their attention to the Friday night home opener against the Concord Crimson Tide. The Tide suffered a 31-28 loss to the Windham Jaguars in the state capital last week.
