The Alvirne High School Cross Country teams competed in the NHIAA Division I 5K Race at Derryfield Park on Saturday, Oct. 26, with the girls’ team placing seventh and the boys getting the sixth spot. Both teams were able to qualify for the Meet of Champions being run at Alvirne High School’s Hills House course this weekend.


For the girls, Pinkerton Academy was able to edge out Exeter High School by one point for the first-place spot and the Bedford Bulldogs took third.
The Astros had a team score of 92 with a team time of 1:48:02 to win the state championship over the Blue Hawks with a score of 93 and a time of 1:47:24. Bedford took third with a score of 169.
The Alvirne girls’ team qualified for the Meet of Champions with a score of 189, two-points better than Windham with a score of 191.
Makita Berry of Bedford had the winning time of 19:18.79 for the win with Lara White of Nashua North taking second at 12:40.85.
Alvirne had several runners in the top 50: Senior Anna Simpson was a tenth place finisher overall, first for the Broncos at 21:14:59; senior Ava Martin had a time of 21:40.80 for 23rd; freshman Olivia Cartagena was 24th (21:47.14); senior Sophia Berube was 49th (23:12.40); junior Lilliana Schultz was 85th (25:34.39); and Addison Tobin was 88th (25:38.23).
BOYS
Bishop Guertin took first with a team score of 65 and a team time of 1:25:42 with Pinkerton Academy taking second with a 73 and a time of 1:26:29. Nashua South tallied 84 for third place.
The Alvirne team had a score of 188 and a team time of 1:31:47.
The winning time of 16:05.08 was run by Sullivan Sturtz of Keene. Matt Giardina of B.G. was second at 16:34.67 and his teammate Ethan Fischer took third at 16:39.50.
Senior Brent Dunning was the first Bronco to finish, placing 21st overall with a time of 17:37.28; sophomore Ashton Rowe was 37th at 18:24; senior Jacob Plante was 39th (18:26.23); senior Ryder Wannamaker was 43rd at (18:33.51); junior Sam Matson was 48th (18:45.01); sophomore Roarke Brandt was 52nd at 18:49.47; and senior Ethan Schultz was 82nd at 19:46.94.
