Broncos Boys Basketball Go To 6-3 with Two Big Wins

The Alvirne High School Boys’ Basketball team moved to 6-4 last week when they rolled over the Timberlane Owls and the Concord Crimson Tide by over 30-points in each victory.
Both games had the Broncos score at least 70-points and wins put them in the eighth spot in the Division I standings.

Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Broncos hosted a game with the winless Owls (0-10), beating the Timberlane contingent by a score of 74-43.
The AHS squad came out strong, mounting a 19-9 start and putting the Owls in a deficit they would never recover from.
In the second quarter, Alvirne kept their opponent to single-digit scoring again and finished the half with a 44-17 lead.
The Broncos eased up the attack in the second half, but still led 30-26 in scoring for the wide-margin finish.
Senior guard Sammy DeWitt led the team in scoring with 26-points. DeWitt came up with six, three-pointers and four for two-points in the victory.
Fellow senior guard, Gabe Conrow also had a solid game, hitting five shots from beyond the arc for 15-points.
Junior forward Garrett Hill had 12-points in the game, getting four, for two-points ang going four-for-five at the foul line.
Senior center Andrew Deely finished with seven-points, senior Evan Bettencourt had five and junior Sean Chipfunde had four in the victory.
Head coach Mitchell Roy was happy with the team’s second straight win, saying after the game, “Great shooting from our guys tonight. It was great to get going in front of a good home crowd and have a bunch of guys hit shots.”
The Broncos kept their momentum going when they traveled to the State Capital on Friday night, Jan. 24, doubling up the Crimson Tide with a 70-36 win and delivering their host their tenth straight loss.
The Broncos had a 25-11 head start after the first quarter was complete and added another 15-9 in the second for the 20-point lead going into the break.
In the third, the Bronco scored 17-points, 10 more than the crimson Tide for a 30-point lead heading into the final period.
Alvirne finished the game outscoring their host 13-9 for the stress-free victory.
DeWitt was extremely focused from beyond the arc, accounting for nearly half of his team’s points. DeWitt scored 36-points with nine baskets coming from outside the three-point line and he went five-for-six at the foul line.
Hall, Conrow and Bettencourt all finished with eight-points.
Chipfunde and Deely each put up four in the win.
With ten games and six wins under their belt this season, the Broncos have just nine games left before the playoffs. Alvirne currently sits in eighth place in the Division I standings with some tough teams ahead of them.
The Bronco will finish the month of January with just one game in the final week of the month.
On Friday night, Jan. 31, Alvirne is scheduled to welcome the 8-2 Trinity Pioneers, starting at 6:30 p.m.
