The Alvirne Broncos Varsity Baseball team started their season off with a 10-inning showdown on Monday against Goffstown. Third Baseman Matty Bebris (#10) led the Broncos for seven innings, giving up two runs, one being earned. Bebris’s (3B) two-run home run at the top of the third inning put the Broncos in the lead.

Goffstown tied the game after a home run by Ethan Strand in the sixth inning. The two teams remained tied for three extra innings, but Goffstown’s back-to-back home runs in the tenth inning gave them the win in this one.
The Broncos had five pitchers take the mound with Mikey Bebris battling for most of the game.
Bebris pitched seven innings, gave up two hits and two runs and struckout nine batters.
Overall, AHS pitchers allowed five hits and struckout 12.
Despite the loss, Head Coach Colton Houle had some positive remarks regarding the competitiveness of the Broncos.
“We were one pitch away or one hit away from winning this game. We will win ball games if we keep competing like this,” said Houle.
The Broncos played in Concord on Wednesday in a low-scoring game.
Pitcher Brady Mitchell (#8) managed to put on a strong performance, allowing only three hits all game. Concord was the first to score, going up 1-0 after two innings. Alvirne came back with a score of their own to tie it up 1-1 after the fifth inning. Alvirne took the lead at the top of the seventh, but two walks at the bottom of the seventh secured the 3-2 victory for Concord.
Centerfielder Charlie Crawford had two hits in the game including a triple.
Mitchell was the only other player to get an extra base hit. He doubled in the second inning.
The Broncos ended their week at home against Trinity on Thursday. It didn’t take Trinity long to run up the score. The Pioneers were up 6-0 by the end of the second inning. The Broncos seemed to be getting in their own way during this game, with some mental errors that proved to be costly. This game resulted in a 10-2 loss to Trinity.
One bright spot of Thursday’s game was Freshman Jasper Workman (#21). He made his season debut, pitching a scoreless inning and getting his first strikeout.
Brody Buja was the losing pitcher, going four innings, allowing seven hits, eight runs walking four and string out four.
The Broncos now sit at
0-3 on the season. They will take on Windham and Nashua South next week as they look to enter the win column.
