The Hudson Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a $339,000 grant during a special meeting, providing full reimbursement for expanded design work related to a regional water main project.
The only agenda item at the special meeting was the Merrimack River Crossing grant.
Hudson Director of Development Services Elvis Dhima explained that the Town of Hudson “has been advancing the design of a water infrastructure project originally intended to address Hudson’s local water system needs.”
“Through coordination with the State and regional stakeholders, it was determined that the project could be expanded to accommodate broader regional water supply needs,” Dhima explained in a memo to the Board of Selectmen.
Dhima explained that the expanded scope of the project requires additional work.
“The expanded scope requires additional design work associated with the larger regional water main, including revised routing, connections, permitting, and related engineering efforts,” Dhima explained. “Weston & Sampson has prepared a revised scope and fee of approximately $279,000 for this work. “
Dhima also brought good news to the board, explaining that the town had received a $339,000 grant to cover the costs.
“The Town received a 100% reimbursement grant totaling $339,000, with no local match required. The grant funding consists of:
Approximately $279,000 for the Weston & Sampson regional design contract;
Up to $30,000 for permit/application fees, additional permitting efforts, and unforeseen engineering or regulatory costs; and Up to $30,000 for engineering support during the bidding phase.”
Dhima explained to the Board of Selectmen that the two “$30,000 allowances would be maintained separately from the Weston & Sampson contract and utilized by the Town only as needed.”
“The Development Services Director will serve as the Town’s point of contact for the grant and associated project coordination,” Dhima explained in his memo to the Board of Selectmen.
The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved accepting the $339,000 grant for the regional water main project. The grant provides 100% reimbursement with no required local match. The board also approved designating the Development Services Director as the town’s point of contact for the grant application and associated coordination.
The next regularly scheduled Hudson Board of Selectmen meeting is slated to take place Oct. 13 beginning at 7 p.m.
