Alvirne Girls’ Soccer Drops Season Opener to Dover

On Thursday, the Alvirne girls’ soccer team kicked off their season at home against the Dover Green Wave. Alvirne, unfortunately, was unable to get their season off on the right foot, as the Broncos fell 4-1 to the Green Wave on their home turf.
The Green Wave opened the scoring early, getting the first goal with 35-minutes left on the clock in the first half. Goal two game before the end of the half
Dover tacked on another goal early in the second half to put themselves ahead 3-0.
Alvirne’s lone goal came about midway through the second half making the score 3-1 in favor of the visitors when Haylie Christman scored for Lady Broncos, taking the shutout away from Norah O’Malley and the Green Wave.
Dover would then tack on an extra goal for insurance with around seven minutes left to put the game on ice for the Green Wave, sending Alvirne to an early 0-1 start to the season.
The Broncos is scheduled to play twice this week, starting with a road game against Timberlane on Tuesday. The Owls are the defending champs and opened their season on Thursday with a 2-0 victory over the Spaulding Red Raiders in Rochester.
Alvirne’s bench may be shortened depending on decisions made by the coaching staff, as some players are rostered both on Varsity and Junior Varsity, and both squads will be kicking off at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Alvirne will then take on the Salem Blue Devils on Friday, Sept. 5, starting at 5:30 p.m. on the Broncos home turf.
Salem opened their season with a 1-1 tie against the Merrimack Tomahawks on Thursday and will take on Exeter on Tuesday afternoon.
