The Alvirne High School football team got off to an optimistic start to the 2026 season with a 16-6 road victory over the Keene Blackbirds, but the Broncos were unable to carry that momentum into their home opener Friday night.
After holding Concord in check for most of the first half, Alvirne surrendered a late touchdown and eventually fell to the Crimson Tide, 37-7, in the second game of the season.
The Broncos defense kept Concord off the scoreboard until just 37 seconds remained in the first half, when the Crimson Tide connected on a 10-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead into halftime.
Concord came out of the locker room and quickly extended its advantage.
After receiving the opening kickoff of the second half, the Crimson Tide returned the ball deep into Alvirne territory and scored on the very next play, taking a 14-0 lead with 11:44 remaining in the third quarter.
The Broncos then had trouble getting their offense moving, as the Concord defense recorded a safety on Alvirne’s ensuing possession to make it 16-0.
The Crimson Tide added another touchdown and a two-point conversion on its next drive, pushing the lead to 24-0.
Alvirne put together one of its most promising drives of the night on the ensuing possession, but the Broncos’ effort ended at the Concord four-yard line when an incomplete pass on fourth-and-goal gave the visitors possession.
Concord added another touchdown with 8:59 remaining in the fourth quarter to extend its lead to 30-0.
The Broncos finally got on the scoreboard with approximately five minutes remaining. Alvirne converted a fourth-and-two situation from the Concord 30-yard line with a touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 30-7.
The Crimson Tide added one more touchdown before the final whistle to complete the 37-7 victory.
Alvirne will look to rebound Friday afternoon, Sept. 19, when the Broncos travel to Windham High School for a 1 p.m. matchup.
