The Alvirne High School Cross-Country Teams competed in the NHIAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 25, with the girls’ team placing tenth out of the 19-teams competing and the boys’ taking the 13th spot out of 20-teams.
The Championship 5K race took place at Derryfield Park, in Manchester, under cloudy skies with a cool, brisk wind on the very hilly course.
Girls Results


The Lady Broncos team came in at the middle of the DI pack, scoring 292-points, just behind Londonderry at 277. The Lady Astros of Pinkerton took first with 55-points, Exeter was a close second at 58 and Bedford was third with 110-points.
Sophomore Olivia Cartegena was the first Alvirne runner to cross the line. She crossed the line with a time of 21:09.29 and placed 18th.
The winner, Alexis Paterna of Exeter had a time of 18:40.11, way ahead of the number two runner at 19:36.26.
Other Alvirne runners competing out of the 125 racers were: Freshman Makenna Simpson took the 26th spot at 21:26.21; fellow freshman Charlianna Downey was 57th at 23:11.02; freshman Morgan Coupal was 89th, 24:57.73; senior Zoe Burt crossed at 102 with 25:59.59; senior Candence Bice was 103 at 26:10.49; and freshman Sophie Sargent finished at 108th at 25:59.58.
Boys Results
The Alvirne boys’ team had a total of 356-points for 13th. Pinkerton Academy took first with 37-points, Keene High School was second with 96-points and Londonderry was third with 114-points.
The race winner was Ethan Fischer from Bishop Guertin with a time of 16:01.76.
Broncos racers were: Junior Roarke Brandt, with a time of 18:41.84; junior Ashton Rowe was just behind him at 18:41.86; senior Sam Matson, 19:01.52; sophomore Camden Griffith, 19:20.82; freshman Aiden O’Leary, 19:22.20; sophomore Logan Hould, 20:03.10; and sophomore Drew Barton, 21:41.65.
Alvirne High School will host another cross-country run this weekend. The Meet of Champions will take place at the Hills House, where teams will be competing for a chance to qualify for the New England Championships. Alvirne’s Olivia Cartegena was the lone Bronco to qualify for this year’s event.
